  • Becky, this one is for you...

Here's a fun story.  Yesterday I went to my neighbor's house to babysit.  They only live a little bit down the street, but I decided to drive because they always insist on driving me home after dark, and I didn't want to be an inconvenience.

The parents leave and the two boys and I sit down and start playing games...but then the mom walks up to the front door.  They hit my car with their Dodge Ram while backing out of the driveway.  Their car is fine - except for a small scuff on the bumper.  My car on the other hand...haha.

There's a giant dent in the driver side front panel.  It's the same one I messed up when I hit the pole last year, it's just the back part instead of the front of the panel.  The dad felt really bad, and now I am hitching a ride to Lincoln with my little bro and have to negotiate car borrowing for work because my car needs some serious body work.

But they're paying for it all, so it's going to be fine.  And they have Geico insurance...I like Geico!  I just saved hundreds of dollars on my car insurance!  Actually, I just like Geico because of the gecko.  Same way I like Aflac for the duck.  Yeah.

    The end.

    Until later,

    Michaela

P.S. Becky, I don't know much about European royalty.  Didn't they teach you this in your Russian Princess classes?

  • I dialed the right number, but someone else answered the phone...

Today, I was at my cleaning job when Christy came by to pick up the equipment from me. She said she hadn't called beforehand because she was having trouble with her cell phone.

A few minutes later I was finishing vaccuuming when my rear end vibrated...it appeared Travis had left me a voicemail! I tried to call them back, but the phone wouldn't go through. I thought maybe the reception was fuzzy, so I went outside. It didn't help, but I eventually got through. Then I tried calling my voicemail to see what the message was...it dialed...and then the call ended before the phone rang. I tried several times, and then someone answered the phone. I was naturally confused. Normally when I call my voicemail, I get a recording of my voice, not some random guy. So I checked to make sure that I had called my voicemail -which I had - then told him that I had called the wrong number.

Eventually I got to my voicemail. The message was from Christy saying she was coming to get equipment. Travis hadn't called me. He had been my last missed call on my call log, but Christy's missed call never showed up there, so I had just assumed it was the former. Anyhow, I tried calling Travis and Tara both to see what their ride situations were for the barn dance (which was a lot of fun!!). It wouldn't connect.

Christy had to come back to pick up a key, and I asked her if she had Alltel. She replied in the affirmative. It wasn't the phone. (cue "Twilight Zone" music...du du du du du du du du)

I finished cleaning and called my mom. I was able to call people as long as Alltel wasn't their carrier. She said she'd call their 1-800 number. I tried calling Travis again. This time it went through! And someone who wasn't Travis answered the phone. Had aliens attacked and eaten him, changed their names to Joe and taken his phone? Or was my call just magically getting transmitted to Joe on Verizon's side with a phone number that started with 613, not 525. Those are completely different numbers!

I stopped by Tara's house. I was forced to do things the old fashioned way because nearly all my friends have Alltel. I called Andrea, my non-Alltel friend and gave her the mission of getting ahold of Alltel-connected Travis. On my way home from Tara's my mom called and said Alltel was well aware that they were experiencing "major technical difficulties" in Lincoln, but they weren't sure exactly what. Then Andrea beeped in. That's what my caller ID said. The person on the other end wasn't Andrea, but a mother wanting to talk to her daughter. I'm not her daughter. That being said, I told her that the whole system was whack and we went our separate ways. Andrea and I eventually did get in touch.

I gathered my barn dance gear together, and headed out of my dorm. There I encountered two girls who were trying to get in, were completely lost and freaked out that everytime they called their cousin in the building, some "freaky guy" answered the phone.

At the barn dance, I found a lot of fun stories. One friend, for instance, called his voicemail and was sent to someone else's inbox. Or Travis said I "called" him. Someone else said, "Where are you?" He said, "Where are you? And who are you?" That was a short conversation. My roommate is telling me Andrea also tried calling me...and someone else answered.

Maybe this was a plot to get people to make new friends. It was fun...except for when I wanted to actually talk to certain people. And alien Joe and I have a date later this week.

I'm kidding. And everything is back to normal.

    The end.

  • It's been exactly three months since I last posted.  I've considered a few times, yet never gotten around to it.

England was great, and expensive.  I never really desired to go there, but the fastest way to learn about any place is to visit.  This proved true in England as well.  We got some great footage for the documentary, and I have learned a lot about quilts...I am continually fascinated by the amount of history, psychology and empowerment behind quilting.

School's been busy thus far.  It doesn't really feel like school because my longer classes - my 10 hour long broadcast, and 3 hour long documentary - don't actually involve sitting in a traditional classroom.  I also acquired a second job cleaning businesses.  I needed it after paying double for everything in England :)

We have been studying the book of Luke in church.  A continual theme for me is how often I look just like a Pharisee.  It is so easy to view people as society labels them and as I see them through my human eyes.  It's easy to see their brokenness and sin and feel superior.  Then Jesus says to me, "Michaela, these are the people I came to save."  And then I just feel like a jerk.  Here's the catch though.  I then realize my own sinful, depraved and broken state...and realize that I am just the type of person He came to save.

Our pastor mentioned this week that if you're the type of person who has it together, who has wealth, prestige and honor, it is so much harder to enter heaven.  There is a war out there for every soul on this earth, and pride is one of the greatest tools Satan uses to blind us to our need for a Savior.  And that's how he clinches the soul.  And it's a battle that we all constantly face.  But Jesus came to save the lowly, sick and broken.  But if we are so distracted with all our blessings, it's much harder to see that need.  But when you have nothing to lose, it's easy to lay down what you don't even possess and follow Him.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but as we've been discussing in Bible study - God is crazy-in-love with each of us and loves us despite our great unfaithfulness.  He forgives completely and wants to lavish us with good things.  Hallelujah! :D

    Until later,
    Michaela

  • Maybe I just can't count...

    1) You just slip out the back, Jack
    2) Make a new plan, Stan
    3) You don't need to be coy, Roy
    4) Hop on the bus, Gus
    5) You don't need to discuss much
    6) Just drop off the key, Lee

Those are only 6 ways of leaving your lover. Paul Simon, you told me there were 50. What are the other 44?

Speaking of numbers, in 3 days I will be on a jet plane. However, I do know when I'll be back again :)

    Until later,

    Michaela

About Me

  • I love Christ and hold on to him because he's my only source of strength, hope, joy and peace. I enjoy sports - football and swimming are favorites. I like to crochet, cross-stitch and read in my spare time. I am a huge fan of ice-cream!
